Default fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator

well this is what happens I have a 98 5.2 durango.i'll be driving and all of a sudden it will feel like its running out of gas.then she'll start back firing.and shell keep that up until i release the gas pedal and accelerate. The min i feel that coming on i just realese the gas pedal and accelerate and that will be it.She doesnt do it alot but all of a sudden i have been getting lousy gas milage.i have no problems changing one of them but they are pricey.ONES APROX $200 AND THE OTHER IS APPROX$280.i would have an engine dignostic done but im afraid it will just be a waste of money seeing that the check engine light doesnt turn on.

any suggesstions???

try this take advantage of the free scans done at some auto parts stores ie- auto zone. While there inquire about loaner/rental tools and get a fuel pressure gauge to test the fuel pressurr... post those results.

also tell us vehicle is stock? no aftermarket?

you claim the vehicle will accelerate? and gets poor milage sounds like something other than a pump... the pressure ck is easy and will help just throwing money at it...

other things can cause the stumble-

i have already hooked it up to the computer at auto zone the problem is that the check is limited to the check engine light.i have to check engine lit but gave it a try anyways.no codes came up.

the durango is all stock 5.2 4x4.durango slt.

before i would be able to get atleast 100 miles per 7.3 gallons of gas now i only get barely 60 miles and thats pushing it.i'll try the pressur check and post.thanks

By chance do you happen to have a Sticker on your radiator support saying something along the lines of a software update from the dealer?

No and stay away...... Thats the death flash!

Could be the TPS and/or the IAC. First clean the Throttle Body and sensors as best as you can: Do It Yourself (top questions and answers) FAQ's I'm thinking the TPS.

The death flash as it's un-official known "Name" is a flash that the dealer does to you truck that makes it run like pure unadulterated **** for emissions purposes. Don't get a flash update for the PCM done.
