Default 4.7 Rebuild?

Hey Gang,

I have a Durango with a 4.7, that I purchased in need of a repair. After tearing into, I was surprised to find the drivers side cam had busted all its retaining caps except for one. All the rockers except for 2 where laying in the bottom of the head. I took the engine to a machine shop I trust and the owner was telling me that even after they rebuild I will need to have some special instruments to make sure the computer is ready for the rebuilt motor. He says that he has had 3 engines come back with burnt pistons because self installer's have fired them up without getting the computer ready. Does this sound correct to you.

Also does the price for the rebuild sound normal? Longblock with tax is 2150.00

Thanks,
Trent
