There is no such single upgrade available that is reasonably priced that will save you alot of money in terms of fuel savings. You will have to do alot of upgrades and with all of them combined, they will give you somewhat better mileage but not enough that may satisfy you. These durangos are big and heavy so the 5.2 won't achieve much better mileage without some serious upgrades.
Here are some recommended cheap upgrades you can do that may give you a slightly better mileage and much improved throttle response for your 5.2.
FYI, before you ask questions these steps, please look in the DIY section stickied on top of the 1st generation durango forum for solutions to most of these steps.
Keep engine in top running shape. Tuneups, regular synthetic oil changes, etc.....
1. Replace paper filter with K&N type filter.
2. Build a custom CAI that pulls air from outside the engine bay.
3. Replace MAP sensor if your vehicle has over 80k miles.
4. Check Throttle body and clean throttle body and IAC sensors.
5. Have good set of tires with low rolling resistance and proper psi.
To step up on your financial budget on more expensive upgrades:
1. PCM programmer (Hypertech) DO NOT USE PIGGYBACK CHIPS. PCM will eventually over ride the chip and you are back to square 1.
2. Replace intake manifold with recommend Edelbrok F1 intake. Been known from other Dak/Dur owners that it increased MPG by up to 30-40% as well as power.
3. Cat back exhaust.
4. Bigger Throttle Body.
If you have even more money to step up, then you are looking at actual engine/transmission internal upgrades to achieve what you want.

If your MPG is bad, check replacing the O2 sensors, you have two of them. Other than that, stay out of the gas pedal.
There is no such thing as good gas mileage on a big v8 and heavy and not a sleek air body design. Get over it is the best answer. If you are above 12MPG, you are fine. If under, swap the O2s
Now in terms of trolling, don't come on a Forum "*******" Dodge, claiming sludge problems, or general posts that appear as if you have an axe to grind and not a real problem to discuss. With only 1 or 2 or 5 posts to your name, you do not get the benefit of the doubt. It will be assumed you are a troll and here to cause problems, not really to discuss an issue that was thinly veiled in troll-speak.
