Default 2 ?'s transmission and diff

OKAY!!! so starting with the transmission where would the bolts/plugs be to drain and refill the transmission fluid? or do you have to take off the whole trans oil pan thing. i see the 2 bolts for the transfer case but have no idea where they are at for the trans.

and for the Differential the dodge durango had an option to get a limited slip diff in the rear. but i dont remember if my parents got that option back in 2001 and my dad doesnt remember lol . i looked under to see if there was a tag but there isn't. theres one in the front stating the front is an open diff but no luck for rear. are there any other ways to check if its a lsd? or is the only option to lift the rear off the ground and see if both wheels turn the same direction when spinning one wheel when the cars in neutral?

thanks.

carefully i would guess through the dipstick tube as i have not seen any other access points for it

and check your glove box for the LSD, or call your dodge dealer w/ the VIN number they should be able to pull up the build sheet for it, if not there is a link on the website you can use with your VIN to get a build sheet

There is no drain plug. You must pull all the bolts but 3 on the front of the pan then slowly loosen these bolts on the front side and let the back slip down and the fluid goes all over the place! Remember to clean off the magnet in the pan and wipe it out before installing.

Put the truck in neutral and lift up both rear wheels by the differential and turn the wheel. If the tires go the same way then it's LSD and if one turns the opposite way then it's open. Also, they didn't install LSD diff in an 8.25 with 355 gearing axle housing. They only came in 9.25 and in 392 gearing OEM. 9.25 carriers where also installed in open gearing with 392's so you best bet is to lift it.

+1 for all the others' advice for dropping the pan and filling up after. You'll need about 7 quarts of the ATF+4 from Mopar. Get the TWO filters and gasket from the dealership as well. Oh yeah, PLENTY of rags or paper towels! HTH.

Yep, that's how I did it. Just make sure the funnel has the tip that fits into the dipstick tube.
