Window frozen closed
Hello all, I just joined and this is my first post. I have a 2000 Dodge Durango with power windows. Every time when winter gets here the drivers door window sticks shut. I live in Illinois and the winters here can be bad at times. This even happens when it gets down to 20 to 25 degrees outside. The strange thing is that all of the other windows work fine all the time. Is this a commom problem? Any suggestions? Thanks.
The rubber window seal is to blame. One way to get around is to leave the window with the torque just off so the window is just shy (1/8 inch) of being fully closed but without a crack. Then in the morning try to finish rolling the window up that 1/8 inch and that should break the ice. Then you can roll it down. If the window starts all the way up in those temps with water to freeze the window trys to unroll but pinches off because of the hardened rubber and ice and acts like a wedge.
if you can get it down (park in a heated garage for a couple hours) you can spray the rubber seals w/ a silicon based lubricant, this will keep the water from sticking to it long enough to freeze, i do this to the seals on the doors as well every winter, keeps the doors from freezing shut
