ye olde speaker question
yes i know this has been covered, but i cannot for the life of me find the speakers mentioned in the other threads, and the only working like goes to 5 1/4" speakers and mine are 6 1/2"
so here is my question, the front speakers (bass/midrange in the bottom of the doors) are pretty well shot, can i replace them with this? http://www.harmanaudio.com/search_br...6032SI&status=
i know the physical size will fit, but i want to just splice a plug onto the speaker so that the OEM plug can be used to install them into the doors

Clip off the factory connector leaving you about 1" left on the plug.
Stip off a portion of both wires on the plug and plug it back into the factory speaker (outside of the truck)
Take a 9v battery and attach one wire to each terminal.
If speaker cone pushes in, then you have the charges backwards. (+,-)(-,+)
If speaker cone pushes out, then you have the charges correct. (+.-)(+,-)
You don't need to keep the factory plug. All you need is a soldering gun, which, I hope to god you of all people have.
That speaker you have chosen should fit just fin no problems, but watch when you set them in and make sure that they clear the window.

I cut off and resoldered in the factory plugs to keep everything plug and play. No need, but I did it anyways. Made it really clean.
Usually the stripe wire is the (-) so keeping it consistent works too without concern of additional testing reqs.

well my dad came home half way through me looking and took the speaker (that about when i posted this, lol) and he looked at it and said the surround is torn, just glue it back on . . . showed me what he meant using liquid electrical tape and we got the surround glued on, it seems to be working for now, im gonna do the driver-side speaker tomorrow if this one is functioning normally when i go out tomorrow, i will do a write up on what i do at that point so that anyone else can try it, if that doesnt work, im going to order the set in the link and make a plug for them (probably gonna use the stock plug like Indy did), and yes chris, i have 2 soldering irons, a solering gun, and a both a propan and acetylene soldering torches
, anyone wanna send me an oxygen tank so i can have a cutting torch

Rubber cement is a very popular fix for the stocker speakers. It is a simply separation around the circle. In the end, all 4 will do the same thing. When I had one bad enough to decide to swap them, 3 of the four had signs of separation starting. I wanted something better hence I did the swap anyways.
I expected you had already dismissed the rubber cement fix or I would have mentioned it. Certain it is in most swap threads.
If you do decide to swap them someday, shallow mount, 2 ohm and 6.5" is all you need.

well the speaker i took out is almost 2 1/2 inches deep, which would allow the regular version of that speaker to fit too but i was only able to find it with a set of tweeters, and since mine are not bad im not doubling the price for them,
and i was not aware of a rubber cement fix being available, if they go again i will probably replace them, but my parents about killed me when i said i was going to replace the speakers (more so my mom) especially when i explained to them that they somehow magically went bad since i left for school in august (they claim they havnt driven the truck while im gone, and are clearly lying cause speakers dont just go bad like that)

actually, the separation of the material happens just over time on those stockers. It may indeed have happened since they last drove it.
With that said, oh the memories of being accountable to mom and dad. Man that was more than a few year ago.

yea, it sucks, and since for insurance purposes the truck is registered to my dad and he will agree with my mom over me, i cant really do anything major to the truck, or apparently even anything minor FML i cant wait to have MY OWN name on the title so i can tell them to F-off, my mom apparently thinks it doesnt matter if i have working front speakers bc the fade to the back is plenty to listen to music with, and shes wrong bc i usually end up driving when i go somewhere with my friends due to my 7 seatbelts . . .
