Default Another 45rfe problem

'01 4x4 4.7 45rfe
I've read other tranny posts but none were quite the same.
This doesn't happen every time, maybe half the time. On cold start, put in forward gear, feels like you're slipping the clutch on a standard. If you continue, chk engine light comes on and gives a generic transmission code. If you stop, put in park, shut off, restart... it will drive and shift fine. But wait, there's more... when it's still cold, when you come to a stop, it feels like you're letting out the clutch on a standard, trying to push you. If you let it roll forward a few feet, it will back down, if not and you don't put it in neutral, it will stall the motor. Once it has warmed up, these problems are gone and life is good.
Electrical or mechanical? Is the torque convertor locking up? Help, please.

the problem you have when you stop sounds like the torque converter is not unlocking all the way, but the first thing to try on any transmission problem is to do a fluid/filter change, DO NOT FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION as it will cause more problems than it solves, it really sounds to me like the torque converter is acting up.

btw how many miles on the truck . . . and have you checked the transmission fluid to make sure it is at the correct level?????

Could also be a torque converter solenoid, but first follow Sharps recommendations. While you have the pan down I change it out.

While you have the pan out, change the filters.
