2003 Durango: How to tell 2-wheel ABS vs. 4-wheel ABS?
#12
Thanks, all
The insurance company ran the VIN and swears it a 2-wheel ABS set-up, so no discount. I was hoping something tangible, e.g. checking the # of lines coming from the master cylinder, might be a way to confirm or deny their claim (they actually told me if I had photo proof of 4-wheel ABS they'd accept that). I was also hoping that whatever method was suggested that it would be easy enough for my daughter to do.... Perhaps I'll ask her to photo the master cylinder and post that? Regardless, I want to be sure before applealing to the insurance company, you know what I mean?

+2 or 3 or 4 on the build spec sheet from dealer. There should be a 3 letter option code on the sheet. It was my understanding that the 4 wheel ABS didnt start until 04 model year but thats one of the concepts of this forum, to share info.
Since IndyD runs an insurance agency, he should be able to figure it out or at least get you started in the right direction.
I am about 1200 miles away from the vehicle right now but when I get back I will check my build sheet and let you know the code. I have 2 wheel abs so you can use process of elimination. Another place might be one of the labels under the hood, or the door post.

My 2000 D has 4 wheel ABS
Contrary to popular belief, the insurance company doesn't dissect the VIN to establish the build of a particular vehicle. Some things come up via vin, however only if the sub-model indicated by the VIN has the OPTION for ABS (2 or 4) is flagged. We take the customer at their word. If the sub-model is ABS applicable, we simply ask which it is.
2 wheel ABS should still have a discount. Time to tell... WHO IS THE INSURANCE COMPANY?
