Default 4wd works, dash light does not

I have a 2000 R/T Durango and last year the dash light stopped coming on when I engage the 4WD. Does anyone know if this is a simple and cheap repair I can do myself? The 4WD itself works fine but it would be nice to see the light come on as a reminder that I have it on. I'm no mechanic but if it's simply a cheap sensor that I can reach w/out tearing into the tranny I'd be interested in a fix.

Help?

Thanks in advance!

I don't have all the info on the exact Transfer Case you have but it is a Full Time Transfer Case. The 2000 R/T is the only year that came with it. I'm sure it is a manual engagement Transfer case and if it is then there is a sensor on the transfer case that is the problem and you can replace it. Not sure on the location but I would assume drivers side by the linkage. Here is the part from www.rockauto.com .

Thanks for the help!

Well it seems the part is cheap enough. Now if I only knew where it was on the transfer case- it I can't reach it w/out tearing things out I probably wouldn't want to attempt it. Maybe I'll poke around and try to find it.

Question though- (yes I have the manual shift for 4WD that is Full time 4WD, 4WD Lock-High, and 4WD Lock-Low.) How did you find that particular part? Looking at the catalog under:

Dodge->2000->Durango-> 5.9 L 360cid V8 -> Electrical-Switch&Relay -> 4WD Indicator Light Switch it lists two and neither are the one you linked to. It shows:

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # TCA9 TRANSFER CASE $19.14

and

ACDELCO Part # C1765A {#89057779} SWITCH,FOUR WHL DRV IND TRANSFER CASE
* Non-stock item--shipping delayed up to 5 business days $21.79

Wouldn't one of these be what I'm looking for?

If anyone else knows where I should look on the transfer case and/or the ease of reach would be great. Also is this something that will cause fluid to come pouring out when I change it?

Thanks again!
