question about 4x4
hello i just got a 99 slt with a 5.2L. the other day I went to and put it in 4 wheel drive to make sure it worked and it seemed like it did but there was no light on the dash saying that it was, but when I look at the dash I see a spot that says 4wd part time. I called the dealer and they said i had the 231hd transfer. The shifter has 2wd, 4Hi, N, 4LO. any help will be appreciated.
it could be a burnt out indicator bulb, to test and make sure it is in 4wd put it in 4wd and try to turn, if the wheels want to lock up and start skipping/squealing then it is working (dont do this often or you can damage your t-case
Everything is working fine.. I'm not sure on the numbers without looking them up but ive got the same set up. They only made 1 instrument cluster for the durango/ dakota line; up for the 98-99Durango and 97-99dakota. You use the same cluster as the part time models to cut production costs. Your transfer case has full time 4wd hi, N and 4wd low when not in the 2wd standard position. Its gonna be the same light for the 4 low too..
You have an NV231 Transfer Case. The NV242HD is the only HD Transfer Case in these D's.
They used the same Instrument Cluster in 1998 and 1999. The NV242HD used the Part Time Indicator but the NV231 does not have that capability. The factory did not want to build 2 different Instrument Clusters as ^^^^Sun^^^^ is talking about.
