Default 01 R/T with no 4 hi/lo

Hi folks,

I have a 2001 R/T D that I purchased this summer. It has AWD and everything with it has been great, other than the obvious little things any vehicle with 150k has.

At any rate, we got snow a few weeks back and I shifted it into 4hi, only problem was, it never shifted. I tried shifting at a crawl, 5 mph, at a stop, everything. Nothing worked. The interesting thing, is my problem is different from the others that i have read here in that my lights seem to respond. When i shift it into 4 hi from AWD, the AWD green light will go out and the 4hi light will flash once or twice and go solid. If I shift to 4lo, the lo light doesn't stop flashing.

It runs great in AWD and I got around in the snow without an issue, but i would like my 4 wheel drive to work. I don't think it is the TCCM, as the lights seem to be responding, and all the threads I have read regarding the TCCM indicate no lights. I am leaning towards it being the TC motor, but I'm not sure what symptoms it will show when it craps out.

BTW, there are no codes being thrown other than an EVap leak one.

Any ideas anyone has are greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Matthew

R/Ts have 5.9s... we got that.

The trans with the 5.9 doesn't have the TCCM.

Trans should be serviced every 24-36k miles. Find a good trans shop to drop the pan (never flush) replace with real Mopar filter and ATF+4, adjust bands (don't skip that step) and all will probably take care of it.

Since you just bought it last summer, most likely it has never been touched. Perfect time to service the front and rear diff and do then in conjunction with the trans from now on. Also, every other trans service (50-75k miles) have the transfer case serviced too.

Once completed, problems will likely be gone. PLUS... you need to have this done anyway.

Only the 4.7L's had non adjustable bands. Yours can be adjusted.

You could check to see if you have power to the transfer case motor and also check the harness for corrosion.
