Once I get the t-case issue fixed, and put tires on it. I travel through 4 states, and alot of back roads, but also alot of highway where available.

In my blazers and jimmy's I have kept it in 4wd HI and driven everywhere with no issues. I didn't know if I would also be able to in the Durango given this has that 4wd PT gear in between 2wd and 4wd FT(HI). Generally if it stays dry out for a good period of time with no snow, or when I do use it at times in warm weather (generally use them in winter for work), I keep it in 2wd HI mode.

I have read about going into reverse and turning the wheel both ways to make sure I am out of the 4wd PT mode, when shifting back to 2wd mode, so I will definitely make sure to do that.

Any other advice would be appreciated since I am new to Durangos.

And thank you all for the help along the way.

the 4x4 FT (full time) is ok to run in all the time at most any speed(bascially like 2wd just turning all 4 and uses more gas), it is the 4x4PT(part time) that you should use ONLY when the roads are slippery/you have problems, the 4x4FT is probably more than enough aid for most people's normal driving, hell i agree with dan i have used 4x4 twice in 3 years, once to get out of the snowed in school parking lot, and the other time to get away from a cop and a certain ticket in 3" of snow on the road

Thank you for the responses. As for getting away from the cops. That should be a new thread titled, "The many uses of 4x4". Would probably be some good stories. LOL

If your going to run in any 4 wheel drive then choose 4FT. One issue with the NV242HD transfer case is 4PT being between 2WD and 4FT positions. As you shift out of 4FT to 2WD it can catch with a little bind (almost always) and the only way to fully get it out is the reverse turning method. EVERY time I switch I ALWAYS do the reverse thing then pull forward and turn sharp on asphalt to see if it binds before I call it fully shifted out.

Just use 4WD when you absolutely need it and be careful!
