Default durango leaky power steering

I recently purchased a 2001 Dodge Durango 4x4, 5.2L V8, automatic. It leaks power steering fluid. It's a slow leak and might take several days until I have to add fluid. The leak has been going on for awhile, so there's a good amount of fluid in the area around the pump and lines, making it difficult to tell where the fluid is coming from. Also, I can't verify this, but the previous owner said it leaked worse if you parked with the wheels turned as opposed to straight. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

could be the cooler they get real rusted up..try to clean up the area of fluid and get a bottle of power steering honey from AZone. it has a fluroscent dye that helps to locate the leak
Good luck

Do you have rack and pinion or steering box?

His is different from yours. 98 & 99 were the same. 2000-2003 were the same.

If it is leaking, fix it QUICK and clean everything VERY good. That fluid will wick into everything electrical and you will be chasing gremlins for years.

The rotary valves and seals inside the rack n pinion might be getting worn out causing it to leak rom those areas next to the power steering lines. you might have to replace it :/. unless your handy and want to change it out. kinda of a P.I.T.A tho

Thanks for the replies! I guess the best way to figure it out is to clean everything up, run some dye through the system, and see where it leaks.

Thanks for the correction Indy, did'nt realize they were different. Anyway I used the Honey from A/Z in my Grand Caravan with rack and pinion and the leak stopped!! So I couldn't locate it anyway but it stopped just the same!! Good stuff I will use again
