Exclamation Transfer case confusion

I have a 2000 Durango 5.9 R/T. On my transfer case selector, the options i have are: 4-LO Lock, Neutral, 4wd, 4-HI Lock. what does this mean to me? does the 4wd setting mean it is always in 4x4, or is it the same as AWD or "Auto 4wd" in general motors products?
thanks

You have a Full Time 4X4. They only made it for 1 year in 2000.

A vehicle with AWD means the transfer of power from the wheels that slip to the wheels that grip. You have a Full Time 4X4 which is essentially the same but without the transfer of power. You will want to be in 4wd position for normal driving.
