A friend has a 2000 Durango with the 4.7L engine and has heard clicking/tapping sounds coming from the engine. Was wondering if anyone else has heard this or knows what it may be. He has taken off the serpentine belt and still has it happen. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

 

i know that on my 3.0 the injectors are very noisy....and they make a clicking noise.

 

mine does the same thing i think its piston slap some chevy engines do the samething 2001 vettes come to mind.

 

is it a constent or just a cold start problem?

 

Try switching from regular to premium gas for a while? I have to do this with my 92 Maxima every now and then to get rid of the clacking and ticking noises.

 

lifters are sometimes noisy on these. but if it is constant possible timing chain. this is a major problem i replace 4.7L timing chains almost as much as 2.7L chains (at least 3 or 4 a month)
