Transmission cooling lines
My transmission cooler cracked in the radiator and filled it full of all my tranny fluid. I got the new radiator but I'm having a hard problem with the transmission cooling lines. I got one apart from the quick disconnect but broke the clip that holds it together and haven’t attempted to remove the other one because I don't want to break it either. I got a tool that slides over the line to release it but can it be reused. Can I buy just the retainer somewhere? Dealer said I have to buy the whole line and O'rileys only carries the retainers for GM and Ford. I don't want to buy $100 worth of lines if I can buy a $0.10 little retainer.
EDIT: It is a 1999 5.9 4x4

On those cooler lines there are disconnects. But there is also a check valve.
The line that goes into the top of the radiator is the hot (out of trans) and the lower is the cooler line (that goes back to the cooler or to an optional cooler).

I just put a temp gauge in mine in the line that goes from the tranny to the cooler in the radiator and it was a standard JIC connection, not a quick disconnect. Yours might be a little different though and yes, at least on mine, the line runs from the tranny, up the left frame rail, under the rad and up the RH side. Getting the shroud out was the worst part for me because I have a brush guard on the front and had to fight everything. I'm leaving it off for now and will just wait and see if I have any cooling problems. It makes draining the Rad. a real pain!
