For a 2000 Durango with the 5.9L engine auto 4X4, is there a band that needs adjustment?. if, how do you know it needs adjustment. Thanks for the help.

Actually, two bands and they need regular adjustment.

you there are 2 of them, i believe you have to drop the pan so it is best done when you are changing the fluid and filter anyway, hydra or master tech will have the details for you

Every 24 months or 36k mile pan drop, filter swap and fluid change. That's when.

Do the diffs then too.

sorry to revive this old post but for the front band when it says back the screw off 2-7/8 turns, does it actually means almost 3 turns?

Yes, mark the screw (before you touch it) and do 2 complete turns, then 7/8 of a turn so turn like 90% of the way, at most exact number would be 87.5%

No,

Mark the inside bolt and the Transmission in a straight line.

Then loosen the lock nut (#1). Then with an inch pound torque wrench, torque the inside bolt (#2) to 72 in. lbs. Then back off the SAME (#2) inside bolt 2 7/8 turns and tighten the outside lock nut (#1) while holding the inside from turning.

What you are trying to do here is wrap the band around the clutch tight (72 in. lbs) then back it off so the clutch can spin openly without the clutch being being held in place. The actual adjustment is the area between the clutch and the band (AKA.....2 7/8 turn off the set screw).
