it sounds to me like you have a cracked evap hose, start under the hood and trace the lines all the way back to the charcoal canister and look for a cracked connector that is the problem

+2 on starting with the evap hoses. I will even go further and give you some starting points.

1. Charcoal canister, drivers side, fraim rail, inboard, right about drivers seat there are two hoses on there. With you having a 2001 there is a pretty good chance of dryrot on the hoses.

Note: These hoses are molded and flared as in 7/16th one end and 3/8th for the other, I used about a 2-3 inch section of each, with universal coupler and hose clamps.

2. Starting at the PCV Valve, work backward there is a rubber hose first then a molded plastic hose going further back.

Note: This line follows behind the engine, and there is another rubber connector behind the drivers side cylinder bank, with a blind fitting between the firewall and engine bank.

Of course while you are at the canister area check the condition of the cansiter itself. Check for tears, cuts, cracks etc.....Overall general condition.

I just fixed this exact issue by checking the connections at the cannister purge valve. On my 2001 it is on the drivers side just in front of the battery. I had serious cracks in the top line. Cut them back and pushed them back on, reset codes with cheap AutoZone tool - no more codes after 2 weeks.

+1 on the charcoal cannister - mine were loose and secured them with clamps (you could use zip ties I suppose). 2001 again is under the drivers seat underneath the vehicle.
