Question Intermittent AC problems

I have a 99 Durango and I'm having some intermittent AC problems. It will start out cold, and then warm up. If I keep driving, sometimes it will get cold again, but then it will get warm.

I had it in the shop today and they checked it out. It had pressure and the compressor is working. They told me the low pressure cut off valve was bad and replaced it. They said it was fixed. I drove it away from the shop only to have it get warm again a few mins later. They want me to bring it back tomorrow for further diagnostics.

I've been searching the web and found it could be freezing up. Does this sound like it could be happening? Any other ideas?

I have had the AC on my D freeze twice in 10 years. Assuming everything is in working order, the way that happens is long, multi hour trips with the AC on max but the fan on low. The max AC setting should only be used on the top two fan settings.

With that said, it doesn't sound like that is your problem. 98/99s didn't have good AC or good cooling. If you get everything checked out again and it's okay, then that could be the best you are going to get.

I dropped it off this morning...still waiting to hear back from them. I plan to have the discussion with them about if they were sure that was the problem, why was it not fixed. If they finally get it fixed, I'll report back what they found.

So it appears there was an intermittent short in the compressor. They replaced the compressor and credited me back for the other part and labor to install it. The air is working fine now.
