Default oil consumption and the PCV valve

I have a 2001 4x4 with 5.9 with 130,000 miles. It was using oil, so someone told me to change the PVC, and within 100 miles it stopped using oil. It went about 3,000 miles and started using oil again, so I got another PVC valve and it stopped again. is there something else wrong that is causing this? I also occasionally pull a heavy trailer with the overdrive off, maybe this is harmeing the PCV?

my first think to look at would be is the plenum gasket still good (look down the air intake, open the butterfly and shine a flashlight in there, if you see oil pooling you need a plenum gasket)

now pulling a trailer with OD off is the BEST way to tow a trailer, as long as the trailer is within the capabilities of the truck (under about 7k lbs)
