Default starter problems

Alrighty guys , I need some help. I recently started to experience starting trouble with my 98 Dodge Durango. After I let my Durango sit overnight , it has some trouble cranking. When I get in and I crank it all I hear is a loud "CLICK" sound. After the third or fourth time of trying to crank it , it will eventually start and then runs fine. I have no problems starting it afterwords. The trouble only occurs whenever I let it sit for a long period of time. I thought that it might be my battery , so I went and got it changed however I still had the same problem. My Alternator tested good at a local autostore. One time after I got it finally cranked I got the error code P1682. While I know that it stands for "Charging System Voltage Too Low" , I cannot find any suggestions on how to fix it. Maybe somebody here has a solution to this problem. Please help me!

Sounds like a bad starter or bad connection. Check the terminals and clean them REALLY good. If it still does it there is a trick you can do. Place a multi meter acoss the terminals at the battery and turn the key to on. Note the voltage. Now have someone turn the key to start as you watch the multi meter voltage drop. If the two are very close it is a bad connection or a bad coil. If you see a large drop in voltage like 2 volts then it's the starter. Now heres the kicker, if the issue is the coil you must replace the starter, and if it is the starter then you must replace the starter.....So either way if it is not a connection or power/ground issue you must replace the starter. They are both integrated into the same piece (the starter).

Always buy a New starter and try to stay away from rebuilt ones. Get one with a lifetime warranty and hold on to the recipt.
