Hey Guys,
At this point I'm doing a little research. I've been a huge dodge fan for years. However I'm looking at my first Durango. I'm just wondering if you have any advice on what I should be on the look out for? Obviously the transmission is a week point in first gen Durangos. Anything else??

Thanks!
Tony

which engine do you want? 5.2/5.9 are the ones you hear about with tranny issues, and its really not THAT common an issue, if you get the 4.7 the transmission is great, with just basic maintenance

the ball joints on 4x4s are the biggest thing to check out, other than that really just the basics that you would check on any other cars

Well as long as you do the correct preventative maintenance then there is no issue with Dodge transmissions. The problem is with consumers NOT willing to do the preventative maintenance cause of the cost. This is operator error with ANY car or truck.

stick to the later years of the 1st Gen and remember that, as Hydrashocker says, the maintenance & treatment by the owner is 90% for these vehicles - these trucks do not appreciate a low maintenance / low spend regime
