New Gears 4x4 help plz?
i have a 1999 D with 5.2 4x4! i wanna put some new gears in it. i dont know what size i know i want it to take off better off the start. i have to put the same gears in front and rear dif right? what size axles are in the rear and front?
You will have to replace both front and rear at the same time. I think the largest you can go is 4.10 (which I recommend) without a carrier brake. While your in there do a rebuild on the bearings and clutch packs if it is Limited Slip. It should state the gear ratio either, glove box on a sticker, under the hood on a sticker, or on the rear end tag on the cover bolts. You will either have a 3.55 or 3.92 ratio OEM.
Next do you know if you have a LSD rear diff, If you don't know. Raise the back end with a jack, then spin the rear tires,if both rear tire spin in the same direction. Then you have a Limited Slip Diff (LSD).

i didnt find the sticker where it sais which gears i have im pretty sure that it has 3:55 gears.ive decided i want 4:10's. it does not have limited slip rear end however i do have a eaton locker to throw in her
i know the rear end is a9.25 but what size is the front?
If you know it's a Chrysler 9.25 Open Gearing Rear Differential, and your year is a 1999, then you have a 194 FIA Axle in the front and that has Open Gearing. If you have an Eaton Locker already then you need to make sure both carriers can be replaced without a carrier break to a larger size or the locker would work with the bigger NEW carrier.
I could find no carrier breaks when looking here http://www.ringpinion.com/DiffSide.a...=1&ModelID=218 nor could I find the 194 Axle with the correct gearing so I am at a loss. You might want to call them or my favorite place Six States http://www.sixstates.com/products/products.jsp
