'02 4.7L,

Behind the battery and behind and below the fuse box, is a canister, with three hoses coming out of it. I found a hose there that was split and disconnected at a green capped service port. I measured the ID and OD and replaced said tube at the service port. What is the service port for? Do I need to do something with it after replacing the hose?

I think it is the emission charcoal canister or purge solenoid, but I'm not sure on your 02 4.7L set up? Some one will chime in.

 

you should not need to do anything with that port except make sure that it is connected inline, it is just there to allow you to check the pressure (since i believe it is a vac line you would need a gauge capable of reading vacuume), so final answer, just make sure it is there, that is all

 

When I repaired this vacume line, the P0455 engine code went away. Sound reasonable? Could that have been the culprit?

 

It is called a purge solenoid. Here's a pic:

There are two right angle hoses connected to it, make sure they do not have cracks in them or they will throw a code. The bottom connection is for the electronics. The in-line service port needs to be connected, you did a great job finding the connection and replacing the hoses. I had to search for almost an hour looking for the loose connection of the service port hose! LOL! I hope you used gasoline-resistant hose cause over time, the vapors from the gas will deteriorate the hose. I replaced all the ones that needed to be replaced with that type.

 

i think he is talking about the little green cap that is in the lines too.
