New member/Dodge owner/Intro- and some problems
New here, have been spending several hours reading different posts. Great info/site. Damn good lookin trucks here guys. Mostly a Chevy guy but have owned a few Mopars, Grandpa was a big Mopar guy. We just traded our 98 Malibu, with no AC, for a 98 Durango SLT 4x4 360. Love the truck. I have a front tranny seal I have to fix this weekend, and a few other things... Still worth the trade by far. Front and rear AC is great 90% of the time. Let me just say, I had a grand total of $800 in the Malibu.
Truck is little beat, needs suspension work, had bald tires till today, needs good wash and polish, fender work, etc. Stuff I can live with mostly. Not really any rattles (awesome) good glass all around, one or two rockchips in windshield, anyway.... Went to get tires put on today and found the rear passenger to have absolutely NO BRAKE ASSEMBLY. at all. lines bent back tied up, crimped off. :O HOLY CRAP. I was thinking the abs and brake light was the sensor mentioned here, but guess again!
Have been driving it easy because of the tranny leak so I dont blow out more than I can keep in it. Short distances with many checks, etc. Could tell somethin wasnt right with the brakes, but figured it just needed pads, rotors, and blamed a lot on the 4 tires showing belts..... but whoa. Had the tire shop go ahead and blow the 3 messed up/rusted to crap bolts off the axle flange for when I get a new assembly. One was gone already (I think there was only 4, I was a little disgusted and didnt pay much more attention to the situation at that point.)
My question is, One of our friends has 2 Durangos, One is an 03 RT that she is driving, the other is an 01 SLT that was rolled, and is now parts, whats left of it anyway. The wheel and all is still on the back passenger side, But will it bolt up and work from that truck? I havnt found much on the actual backing plate and parts, except that the wheel cylinders are different sizes.
Other than that, any tips on the front pump seal on the trans? Im planning to hopefully unbolt and slide back far enough to get the TC out and change it, but are there any little things I should know about to make things easier/quicker, without messin somethin up? Is there enough room to slide it back and do this or does it have to come clear out/drop down?
I'll attempt to upload some pics of the new Durango in our family.

Not my kid in that last one, the last two were the pics previous owner sent us. Our kids only a year and a half, but he thinks this thing is his. lmao.
Last edit I think..... Where can I find the option list for the truck? Does Dodge have an "RPO" code sheet or something like it? Anybody know what trans this has with the info listed? I know one is a 14 bolt pan according to autozone, somethin like that, Just need to know which seal to get, I guess I can just get both they have listed and take one back.
Ok one more edit, the POS silver mitsubishi next to it is not ours lol.

Cool, I did answer some of my questions above after more and more reading here, like the ac stuff, etc. I just wasnt sure if the 01 parts truck had an option for disc rear, I didnt really even look when I was out there last. I know a lot of stuff changed on the 03+ then the major changes on 04+, shes kinda mad cause most of whats left on her 01 wont work on the 03. Oh well, the misfortune gives me a chance to change the axle oil and seal. After that, and the trans seal, I'll probably change the front axle oil/seal. Then on to steering and suspension bushings/parts. Wooohoooo the joys of getting something used.
I am going the other way on this one. 1998-1999 where almost identical.
2000's were a breed all it's own. and 2001-2002 are pretty identical.
Then there's the 2003 which is different.
There is a lot of different suspension parts on these years but exactly which ones I don't know.

There is nothing unique or different on the 2000 BRAKE AND SUSPENSION. It's all the same.
If we were talking steering, the 2000 matches the 2001+. If we are talking rear washer fluid or underhood layout, it matches the 2001+. Other than that, it matches the 99- on interior. Nothing else is 'unique' to a 2000.
