i have a problem with my 01 dodge durango 5.9 r/t
So today at a stoplight i gunned it which i dont regularly do and once i got to 55 my transmission didn t want to shift, up or down. the rpms remained up around 3-4k and didnt go down until i slowed down. does anyone know what happened? its an 01 dodge durango 5.9ltr r/t. also when im stopped in my driveway and turn the wheel i hear a knock sound, also wondering what that could be, just got the power steering serviced before i bought the car. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks
maybe you didnt get the engine winded up enought to where it needs to shift? and the iknock could very possibly be rear end diffrential needing fluid flush, mine use to do that and once i got it serviced it went away so defintly check that. good luck!
also my durango (slt+ 4.7) doesnt shift tell pass 4grand i belive.

luxury, if your truck is not shifting under 4 grand you have a problem, get it looked at (might be low on fluid, or a bad solenoid or any number of things)
now to the OP, the truck wont shift if you are on the gas hard (which it sounds like is the case here) so you will have to let off the gas to make it shift, you can try adjusting the TV cable to see if that helps (it usually does) and if not go on to a fluid/filter change and band adjustment.

shrpshtr325,thank you for replying, i let completely off the gas and it still wouldn't shift. it only happened once today but it just seemed extremely abnormal. the rpms stayed up at 3-4k even after i let off the gas, almost like the accelerator stuck but i gave it gas and braked and it eventually downshifted as i came to a stop. luxury, thank you for replying, the knock i heard was up front by my front tires not in the rear diff. area, any other ideas anyone?
the knock could be loose tie rods, or steering arms crawl underneath and have someone else turn the wheel to see if they move/pop as it turns, also check the ball joints for wear as they are infamously weak on these trucks
The transmission went into limp mode because of your irratic driving. Pull over and shut down the motor "Key in the off position". Then restart and it should go away unless you caused a problem.
As for the knock in the front suspension, check the bottom ball joints. You can have someone turn the wheel while you watch the front end to find out which side pops, the go from there.
