thanks hydrashocker.... i took off the o2 sensor and ordered a new one, but after it gets replaced i will check in to that. i think i am going to replace the radiator and hoses. what would be a good way to check the water pump without taking it out?

 

Get the 02 sensor from the dealer!


While you have the radiator out I would just replace it. There is really no way to fully know if there is a problem with the water pump other than a weep hole that can drip but to stay safe that is what I would do. The last thing you want to do is over heat.

 

Hopefully you got it fixed but dont rule out the radiator....I had the w/p fan clutch, thermostat replaced and it finally turned out to be a massive internal failure of the radiator.....internal explosion....back pressure was at the upper hose not allowing coolant through radiator..... leaked through fitting on radiator side........fins of radiator split from pressure......If you need photos let me know......New radiator and for piece of mind....radiator cap.....The vented kind to relieve pressure if it does overheat.....I had hot/cold spots the kind that could be determined by infrared laser thermometer..... Original diagnosis was Head Gasket........


Other moral of the story........DO NOT USE PEP BOYS!!!!!!!

 

hydrashock- i will take your advise and replace the water pump.
magic84- did you buy a 1 row or 2 row radiator? was yours maintaining temp on highway and overheating in low speeds? what about when parked would it overheat? it would be great if you can show me some pictues.

On your truck there are 2 options for replacing the radiator.

1. There is a bit cheaper one which is a 2 row, aluminumn, plastic end caps. This one does NOT include a optional transmission cooler.

2. There is the same type that INCLUDES a optional transmission cooler and it also has the lines and trans cooler is already mounted. This is the one I would buy! It is also for the heavy duty cooling service group but I would get it regardless.

Now you could always do the cheaper radiator and install a large trans cooler for the difference and end up better all around but most people just buy the one that is already put together.

 

and for most, the one that is already put together is more than sufficient

 

I am not sure whether mine is one or two row.....I know it is MOPAR OEM and for reference costs about $850 last October at Dealer.

 

Yours should also be a 2 row (Core) as well Magic.

<p>finally got the water pump, but it was not that. so i bought a radiator, two rows & aluminum. its installed and its been running about 20 miles with the ac on without over heating. the old rad was BADLY plugged. it had chuncks of mud/sand inside and the outside was full of bugs too. so that problem is solved and i thought i would let u guys know.</p>
