Default ac compressor knocking

alright boys, I have been without ac in my 2003 4.7 Durango, here in South Carolina for a month and a half now, and it is getting old! I have had the system purged and reserviced, checked fuses, and still blowing ambient temp air. I had witnessed the compressor shutting down every 3-5 seconds and now i can hear a knocking/rattling sound coming through the vents. There is no puddling from the a/c running. Now, I am an aircraft Mech, but I don't know jack about auto a/c systems. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

The rattling sound you hear could be the squirrel cage coming loose from the blower motor. It also sounds like you may have an expansion valve that is stuck and needs to be changed. Do you have rear air or just front air in your Durango? Dual air takes 2 expansion valves and single front takes one.

3-5 seconds on and off could be low freon as well. Also could be a blend door issue.
