Hi guys, hopefully someone can give me some info on this.

I got a 98 Durango with about 160k on it and every once in a while the check engine light will go on and the code told me it's the O2 sensor that needed to be replaced. I'm definitely what you would call a novice when it comes to auto mechanics so could someone tell me if this is something that I can figure out how to do on my own? Usually when I go to get an oil change they'll just take care of it for me for nothing.

Can I just grab the part at any old autoparts store and throw it in or is it more complicated?

It's not complicated. Getting the old one out is the hardest part I find it best to warm up the engine a little. Disconnect the wires and slide a box end wrench over the o2 sensor to remove. Take your time don't round off the corners. Install the new, reconnect the wires.

 

make sure to get an OEM sensor (from the dealer) aftermarket sensors seem to cause problems with the computer, but it is not hard, and you could do it yourself if you dont mind crawling under the truck and know how to use a wrench
