Is my 5.9 durango supposed to be this slow?
AHAHAHAHA!!! I think shrps almost had an anuerism before he realized you were joking, Indy!
thanks for the input guys. Did the full tune-up and it is still a bit slower than i expected i did hitch a boat to it recently and felt like it wasnt even back there. I now understand what this engine/gearing set up was designed for.
My personal experience:
2002 Durango 5.9L = towing bulldog, but crappy racer
I'm also comparing it to my 2000 Camaro SS
, so the Durango had nothing on "speed" but could pull my house down the block.
5.9L = 245 HP/335 lb-fr
5.2L = 230 HP/300 lb-ft
4.7L = 235 HP/295 lb-ft
Relatively low compared to smaller displacements from other manufacturers (hell even the 5.7L Hemi = 335 HP/375 lb-ft).
But keep in mind, they have a tow rating just under the 1/2 ton Ram trucks for a "small SUV".
Their weight is another major factor.
As mentioned above, full tune-up should help, but also consider the other typical bolt-on upgrades (headers, CAI, etc.).
Another area to make some good gains is installing electric fans

5.9 is the biggest, torqueist(is that a word) and most powerful of the 3 offered, so off the line yes, in a sense, but all that power and torque is made low in the rpm range so its not as quick in the top end
