Diesel Conversion
Blackedoutslt, yes you can do a diesel conversion! The Cummins 4bt is the best application to use. Go to 4bt.com and search Dodge Durango there are several conversions on that site for Durango. The 4wd is more conducive to a swap and easier to do. The 2wd is a little more challenging because of the engine oil pan location and Durango suspension. The reason I bought my D is for the 4bt swap in the near future. Right now my vehicle is too new and still has to have emmisions test in North Carolina,I live in Apex,NC.There is a guy in Tennesee who specializes in the 4btt conversions and will put one into anything you want.I do know the couple of D owners on 4bt.com are seeing 30 mpg + from there vehicles plus the power and torque numbers put the 5.9 and 4.7 to shame. Diesel is the only way to go. I have an 1985 D-350 crew cab with a Cummins 5.9 and I would never go back to gas. Again check out I think 4bt.com or 4btforums.org or com. If you can't find it google it. Also sharpshooter353 or whatever your handle is you shouldn't be making comments about diesel conversions being rare because you do not know what you are talking about. Right in your state of New Jersey lies tons of Cummins conversions and 1st Gen Cummins owners. Do your research B 4 engaging your mouth!!
considering the amount of D's out there, they are rare. the D was one of the best selling SUVS out there if the diesel conversions were NOT rare i would have seen a number of them in my lifetime, i have seen 0, now i understand engine swaps are not easy to see, but the diesel engines usually have significantly larger exhaust pipe diameters than a regular gasser engine, and also tend to sound different than a gasser engine, i have not seen a single one, therefore (at least in NJ) they are rare (not to mention illegal thanks to the emissions testing required in the state that they wont pass on a vehicle that was sold as a gasser)

You come on here spilling that kinda crap on the forum instead of acting like an adult? Dude if you got somethin to say, then lets be social about it and lets talk about it like adults instead of like acting like a 12 year old that didn't get his video game privileges.
Second, if you want a little respect around these parts how about giving us an actual web site instead of "it's this or that". How about posting links to the subject with the CORRECT structures like www.4btswaps.com and actually give the link. I find it hard to comprehend that if you hang out at these forums or sites, but that you can't even give the correct web sites address or links.
The FLAT out rule is this; The conversion is RARE in comparison to the 1st generation Durango owners that are out there. In fact I would bet the conversion number would be somewhere in the .1 to 99.9 of the numbers actually sold.
You might have had the privlage of seeing one of these vehicles (which I seriously doubt) but have you actually done this? Do you know what it intells?
Can it be done? Yes........ But it is very hard!
Seriously, I'm done with this!
Damn dude,
