This is why I'm addicted to this forum... Education! Gear heads and grease monkeys? Not anymore- this **** is way to complex for the average schmoe! Intuition doesn't take us very far anymore.

You never get anything out of the second ignition because it's on exhaust stroke to burn any un-burned fuel as Sharps stated. Besides, the only engine I know of right now that has a 2 plug set up is the HEMI.

Technically, the coils are referred to as "Ignition Coils" as per the Service Manual.

Yeah the new 4.7 has 16 plugs now. Intakes are 30K and exhaust are 100K. All Bosch brand.

So, both the plugs don't fire at the same time?

hydra, i hate to rain on your parade, but these are the plug numbers from the owners manual in my dads 09 dakota qc w/ the NEW 4.7

fr8te2 for the upper bank of plugs
fr8t1332 for the exhaust bank of plugs

a quick google search comes up with those being bosch part numbers

Wow, freaking Lamesauce.

Such a waste of spark plugs AND coils.

The waste spark DIS in my Datsun runs just fine with only a single plug per cylinder and only 3 coils on a 6 cylinder, go figure.
