Default 1999 Durango - 5.2L 2WD - Need some honest opinions

Need to know if its worth throwing money into this car. it has 147,000 miles, the heat/AC is broken. I basically just use it as a local car (train station, home depot, etc).

Some pics below show the current problems:
1. exhaust: looks like a new muffler and tail pipe are needed.
2. front end picks: broken tie rod on one side, rusted/bent tie rod on other side.

How much would it cost to fix these items? Car probably is worth less the the cost to fix i guess. Thoughts?

Thanks ahead of time.

With the condition of the heavy metal parts under there already eaten away from rust... she's a goner. Spend very little on only required repairs and move on when needed.

Whoever owned that Durango before has abused it via neglect over the years and now you have to pay for those circumstances. Case in point, "tape" to fix a rotted out $99 muffler? If that was the previous owners rational for repairs, and from the neglect looks on the rust and rot it was, just find a new beater.

IndyD,
Thanks for the insight.
Is it safe to drive this way or am I putting people in jeopardy?

Borderline. Just don't make any sudden hard turns! I agree about the rust. It has become more of a "rot" condition. When you try to fix one thing something else is going to break and need replacing.

Seriously, never drive a vehicle when you have a known broken part. Especially one related to steering, suspension, braking.

Nope, not safe to drive. Not to mention.. You have significant liability now that you have the understanding to even consider it, thus could mean the rest of your lifetime earnings, your home, etc if you were sued for said liability.
