Default Programming a key fob?

Okay... so I have heard you have to have the dealership do this if you do not have any existing working key fobs. I have aslo seen that you can temporarily "ground" a wire at the data link connector to "make" it go into programming. Everything I see points to a dark green wire in connector #1, which I do not have a wire there. I called the only dealership within 50 miles and they said..."sure we can do it... for about... $150.00!" That seems like alot for just a programming of a new transmitter. I know the module is in the left kick of the 2001 Durango... is there ANY other way to program it?

if you have a working key fob you can program additional fobs, but if not the dealer is your only option

I only have a single key fob that works but I have one more I need to program. I haven't seen the procedure, but it would be nice to have it if you don't mind. Might even want to place it in the DIY section as well.

Never ground anything to a "data link connector." That is NOT the method. It IS a quick way to blowing up the electronics most likely.

$40 to program FOBs everywhere at dealerships. Get out the phonebook.

1. Press LOCK button 5 times at 2 second intervals to resynchronize remote.

2. Insert key into the ignition switch. Turn ignition to the RUN position (as far as you can
go without cranking engine). Wait for ignition chimes to stop.

3. Using the working remote, press and hold the UNLOCK button on the remote for 4 to 10
seconds.

4. Within the specified 4 to 10 seconds, continue pressing the UNLOCK button and then
press the PANIC button ( on the programmed remote ) for 1 second and release both
buttons. A chime will sound to indicate that the remote programming mode has been
entered ( allow 3 seconds for chime to sound ).

5. Within 30 seconds of the chime, press and release the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons
simultaneously then press and release just the UNLOCK button on the same remote.
A chime will sound indicating the remote has been programmed. Press and release
the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously and then press the UNLOCK button on
each new remote you wish to program at this time. Locks will cylce afer each additional
remote is programmed.

6. Turn the ignition OFF and remove key.

7. Test Remotes.
