Default do I need to remove rad to get to water pump

My serpentine belt broke and wrapped around my fan which caused a metal on metal grinding sound in addition to the water pump leaking. Does the radiator need to be removed to replace the water pump?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

here is where i come in with my open face spanner wrench picture stolen of google images...
thats the only hard part about doing the water pump is separating the fan clutch from the water pump pulley.. but thats the tool you need.. you just put the little nipples in the holes on the pulley so you can crank the big fan clutch nut off.. its a knuckle buster.. have a friend help

Metal on metal? Any other signs or damage besides the pump? Like fan blades? Radiator fins pushed in? Pulleys loose?

I just did my water pump over the weekend and I was able to manuever the entire pump and fan out without removing the radiator on my 01 5.9L. Unfortunately...my fan clutch nut was rusted on so I could not get it off whether I used the air hammer or chisel trick. I ended up putting the entire assempbly in the vise and use a screwdriver into one of the holes in the pulley against the pump body itself and a torch to heat up the nut to break it free. Removing the fan was the biggest PIA I had at all.

that is usually the case with the fan nut, unfortunately, that is why most recommend a BFH (big f*cking hammer)
