Default Power Window Help Please

1999 Durango

Driver side power window will not work correctly. When you hit the switch the window will raise about half way and if the close it , it will close to a quarter of the way. I hear a crunching noise when the window is raising.

I can grab the window and lift off the platform that lifts the window...

When looking at this, I am not sure what exactly to look for - there is not much room to look around in there...

How would someone with more PW experience tackle this?

I am scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan in a month, I want to get this fixed before I leave for the wife but do not want to spend the $$ for a motor and regulator and have that NOT be the problem.

Thanks in advance.

sounds like the window regulator assembly went bad. If you are mechanically inclined it should only take about 20 to 30 minutes to replace.

Take off the door panel. About 4 or 5 screws and then lift and pull away from door. And disconnect switches.
With the window raised, remove 2 bolts that hold window to regulator. Use a screw driver or something similar to hold window in the up position while you take out the regulator.
Assemble new regulator in reverse order.

I've replaced 3 regulators so far in my 2001.

I have the doot apart already, the only thing that wories me is the crunching noise I hear. It leads me to believe that either something is in the track or the gears are shot in the motor... I think I will start by removin the motor and see what it looks like, if I can see anything at all haha.

The crunching noise is either the gears or the cable. Replace the regulator/motor assembly. The are $50-$60 on ebay shipped and as stated above, are pretty easy to change (I have done all for within the past year).
