Intermittent starting issue
Hey folks. Have a 1999 Dodge Durango with the 5.9l. Sometimes when I attempt to start the vehicle, I get absolutely nothing. Interior lights and such work, but turning the key won't do a thing. If I put jumper cables to it, fires right up. Thought perhaps the battery but it tested fine. However after a few more issues, I tried an optima battery from another vehicle and still have the same issue. Any ideas?
Could be bad grounds. Find and clean out any grounds you may find and then try a restart. If it still isn't starting, check the IAC motor on the back of the intake under the airhat held on by two torx screws. Remove airhat and gently remove the IAC cause you don't want any debris to fall into the intake. Clean out the motor with carb cleaner but be careful of the plunger. Clean out the port where the IAC is located too. Replace everything and try starting the engine again. HTH.
Clean both the battery connections.
Clean the lug ends on both the positive and negative wire ends.
Then replace the starter. Look here at the second listing down and it will have all the information you will need: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...wers-faqs.html
