Default Storage solutions

I come seeking higher intelligence. I hope that someone has an elegant solution to my question.

What is the best way to store tools and emergency items to keep the cargo space neat and organized?

I just traded up from a Mercury Grand Marquis which I used for several years as a taxi. I had a huge tote bag to hold tools, jumper cables, flat fix, oil, a flashlight, spare bulbs, and all the other things which I might need on a moment's notice to keep me available for business. I kept it on the shelf with the spare tire, which left the trunk well completely clear. And in the trunk everything was out of sight.

It's totally inappropriate in the Durango. There's no place to hide anything in an SUV. (I've looked for cargo covers but haven't found anything.) At a minimum I'd like to have the cables, flashlight, and some hand tools with me. More if possible. But Unsecured Junke just slides around. A milk crate holds things but looks cheap. I'd like something practical and, if possible, attractive to do the job.

How do you experienced owners address this?

Thanks in advance,

Richard

dont you have the storage compartment right against the rear liftgate where the jack and factory emergency kit goes? that where i put all of my tools, its not the neatest when you have to go looking for them, but it does get everything out of sight

*facepalm*

Haven't looked in there since I bought the thing, which was only about 3 weeks ago. It's larger than I remembered. The cables will be a squeeze; otherwise it will do nicely for the reduced kit I'll be carrying. Thanks for the quick response.

The question stands about Stuffe in the cargo bay. What are some ways to keep it immobile and, if possible, concealed? Besides just hiding it under a tarp, I mean.

i keep my mtn bike and a big plastic underbed type storage bin in the back all summer, i just use bungie cordes btwn the two of the tie down clips to keep everything from sliding around. keeps the stuff i use almost every day quick and easy to access and keeps most of the dirt contained, and im sure that they make solid colored ones that you could use to hide whats inside it
