My 02 does something similar, I haven't checked it out yet though. At first I thought it was the ball joints, but the bj recall has already been done.

are your brake calipers on good and tight? maybe when the pads grab they are providing just enough force to the caliper to move it, hence the noise

hey--thanks for the replies,i jacked it up and the front wheels seem tight and all appears to look good under the front,i have had the recall done and i did think of the calipers but have not checked them yet.1 thing i was looking at was that it is a 4 wheel drive and you can grab the front drive shaft and it has alot of play in it which makes a noise when turning it back and forth??-----not sure if this is normal or what---thanks

Yes and no,

it could be that the backlash on the gears are in need of adjustment because of normal ware. Take a look at the pad arms to the control arm sliders and see if the pads have worn into the sliders. If the pad arms are worn or control arm is worn too large of groves into the sliding deck then the control arms or pads need to be replaced.
