2000 Durango RT 5.9 Parasitic Drain Somewhere
I would like to start off with, I am new to the site, I am a girl, I enjoy working on my own vehichles, and do know my way around them. Thank you for reading this post and attempting to help me with my issue, it is greatly appreciated!
I have a 2000 Durango RT 5.9L, 144K, with a parasitic drain somewhere. I traded title for title a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse for the Durango in Sept 2010. I know very little about it other than the things I have repaired.
I have replaced the alternator, starter, and the battery in the last 2 weeks trying to fix this issue and it did nothing to help.
The issue: when the truck sits for more than a couple of hours, it is goes dead, completely, no lights, bells, working locks, nothing. It will start with a jump, battery will show full charge at 14, will run and drive fine. Stop and turn the engine off and leave it for a short time, hour or two and dead again. A couple of times, after jumping it, it wouldn't idle, it would just die again. I would keep the RPM's up and after a few minutes it would idle just fine.
I don't know what else it could be, short of pulling all the fuses or stuffing a stick of dynamite in the gas tank and pushing off a cliff, I am stumped!

your best bet is just that put an ammeter on the battery and unplug fuses until the current draw w/ the key off goes down, that will give you an idea of where to look for the problem
i have heard of the rear wiper motor causing this, and just about any electronic motor or device in the vehicle could do it, check the power plugs in the truck make sure nothing is left plugged into them and that there are no coins stuck in any of them (dont laugh too hard, iv seen it happen)

Let me first say.......... welcome to the forum!
Next, even if your a girl we will help you out just as if you were a guy. There is no sexism here.
SOOOOOOO,
You have a larger then a parasitic drain somewhere. You have a very large issue pulling a lot of power to kill a battery down THAT far. What I want you to do is pull a main fuse from the PDC (out of the main fuse panel, drivers side, under the hood) each couple of hours until we can figure out which one it is, then we can go from there!
