Hi all,

New problem with my 2003 4.7 Durango. I popped it into 4WD the other day and it seemed like it immediately went into 4 low. Switch was in the high position, hi light was on, however the truck slowed down very quickly (I was doing about 20 mph when I switched it and felt a noticible drag on it as well as I heard the different "whine" that 4Lo makes)) It then wouldn't release from 4WD until I stopped clompletey, put it into neutral, changed the switch, and then pulled away again. I purposely put it into 4 LOW and it behaves exactly the same.

I haven't troubleshot it at all yet, it just surprised me that it would go into 4WD at all if there was any problems with the transfer case? The only 4WD experience I have is with the old Ford manual locking hubs, so this is a new area to me.

Thanks,
Bob

hmm well im used to the 4x4 system being extra drag and you WILL slow down faster (even in 4x4 hi), however im not sure if it will be the same as 4x4 lo, and your experience with getting out of 4x4 is in line with being in 4lo however theo nly thing i could think of which would cause the case to overshift is a bad range sensor (what tells the computer where the t-case is) or a bad TCCM

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure that it's going into low because the drag was pretty severe. I normally don't use low unless we get some serious snow, but I do routinely use high range for driving on snow covered side roads. The truck slowed waaayyyy down when I put it in 4WD.

I'll get a chance to work on it this weekend, maybe before. Right now it's 10 degrees & snowing hard. There's no way I'll get my garage anywhere warm enough to work on anything!

Thanks,
Bob
