rear heater leak
i have spent the last week wondering why i was loosing a gallon of coolant each day and not being able to find the leak. with it living outside and getting snowed on (and melting) it was hard to track down where it was coming from. i happened to get in to the rear storage area for something and found it full of water (antifreeze).
i am not sure if it is the tube plugging into the heater, but i am hesitant to remove it as it looks like you destroy the connector in the process. if so, are they easy to replace?
it could be the whole unit has to be replaced, which is going to suck and be expensive i am sure. any thoughts, experiences, information would be appreciated.
this is the whole heater assembly with the leak in red:

I cant answer your question, but wanted to say you are the man. Several posts on here and other Dakota/Durango forums have people asking about pictures of exactly what you have posted. Makes it alot easier to see what someone is talking about without having to remove the panels.
sounds like you need a rear heatercore replaced, i believe you can do that w/o changing the whole unit, but iv never had to do it myself
just checked rockauto, they have a rear heater core listed for your truck

other thoughts:
after letting the engine warm up i get hot air from the front blowers, but only ambient air temps from the back. also, the coolant that is leaking from this tube is cold while the engine is hot. i was planning on getting burned when i put my finger under the drip, but no. all of this makes me wonder if there is a blockage or something preventing the water to pass through the heater core. maybe this is causing a pressure increase where the tube meets the block, which is causing the leak.... i am speculating.
i have not taken the assembly apart to reveal the heater core but i did see the one listed on rock auto. i hope i only need a core an not this whole assembly.

Not much information out there. Sorry, but you are going to have to wing this one and let us know.
Looks like you have a bad heater core (blockage) and you need to replace it. You could try the garden hose technique to blow out the blockage then fix the leak.

I have the exact same problem and have the assembly unit stipped to where your pictures are. I am hesitant to go further because I have not found a diagram of the heater core location. How did you resolve your problem and did you put in a new heater core?

Have to say I'm glad someone actually posted pictures of this too. THANK YOU ! My questions is, where is the "blend door" that everyone says breaks ? Supposedly this is the reason for no heat in the rear of the Durango.
