Default timing chain

Any thoughts on proactively changing out the timing chain and gears. I'm going to do the Hughes plenum plate swap on my D (02 5.9L with 155k) and thought I should go ahead and swap the chain. Thoughts? Anything else I should look at?

It helps to know what we are working on. I see from your posts that you have a 1999, so you must have a 5.2L or 5.9L, however you could have the 3.7L (but I seriously doubt it).

I wouldn't do it personally. On the 5.9L -5.2L you have to remove the fan, water pump, dampiner, timing chain cover, then the actual Timing chain and gearing. If it would make you feel better and you have high mileage then it would be plausible, however they do make these engines a lot better then the past and they last a lot longer.

hydra, lay off the damn booze, top right of his post, says 02 durango, his post says we are working on a 5.9

but he is right on what he said about the timing chain, there really is no reason to change it unless you are having problems whihc are related to it

No problems with it. I just changed out the timing belt on my wife's rice-burner, which made my think about the chain on the D. Thanks.

yup thats the beauty of the timing CHAIN, its lasts its not an item that you replace on a schedule, only if it causes problems(its also a lot less likely to break than a timing belt)

When I originally posted it wasn't there? I had to go looking so I guessed.
