Ctm
Another problem with my '02 D. (4.7, 3:55, 107,000 miles). It has been having intermittent lock issues. Started with the panic alarm going off when trying to open the doors. Then it progressed to not being able to lock/unlock the doors with the fob. This doesn't happen all of the time, but it is happening more and more often. The interior lights flicker and the "dinger" for keys in the ignition hasn't worked for a while. We replaced the battery a few months back when it failed. The truck has now drained the battery twice in the last two weeks, to the point where it won't start. The first time, the front door was left unlatched, and since the CTM is on the "fritz" the interior lights didn't go out after 45 seconds. I'm not sure what caused the battery to drain this last time. Anywho, a mechanic friend of ours said it is the CTM. Questions -
Can we get a used one? Are they reliable? Typical cost? Does the stealership have to reprogram anything? Hubby is very handy and can replace it, but I'd rather not have to "mortgage the farm" to get this fixed. (No, I don't want to take it to the stealership!) Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

if you can find a used one some people have reported good results swapping it in, however no matter what you do you MUST have it programmed by the dealership (they are the ONLY PLACE that can program it), mysuggestion is to buy it at the dealership, install it in the parking lot (iv heard of people doing this) and then have them program it.
EDIT: make sure to take all your key fobs with you so that they can be programmed into it.
