Default Motor starts every time like its been sitting for weeks.....

Meaning basically, if I let my truck sit overnight (4.7L), and start it, it dry starts, or runs as if it has no oil pressure only for the first few seconds, as if it hasnt been started in weeks, sometimes it will do this even after sitting only for a few hours, the noise just makes me cringe every time I hear it, is this normal?? Ive been in many durangos, and none do this.

I even changed the oil and added lucas oil stabilizer as to better lubricate everything for easier starts, but it had no effect. The motor only has 50K on it, runs great otherwise

the startup tick after sitting over night is normal, mine has done it since new, it drove my dad nuts so he went back to the dealer and complained, they couldnt find anything wrong w/ it, and even went out and started every 4.7 on the lot, the vast majority of them did it, just wait for it to stop and it wont be a problem, you could also put an oil filter w/ an anti-drain back valve on to help ease the dry start situation

The lucas is not helping things as it is just making the oil thicker cold.

Right I am aware of that but it also tends to not drain back like motor oil thats why I put it in to add extra lube for the dry start.

I guess I will ignore it then, Ive never dealt with it before

I had a Nissan 300ZX that did the exact same thing. Drove it well over 100,000 miles myself like that and it was never a problem. Engine was still going strong at 250,000 miles when I finally sold the car for a hundred bucks.

This is why I don't put anything except synthetic oil in my oil pan. Put some full synthetic next time you do annoul change. Makes it flow like water even in extreme freezing temperatures.

I hated it when people would bring in lucas when I worked at an oil change. It took forever just to get it in the motor.

It's just another un-regulated additive in my book!

Just run a good Fully Synthetic with a Polyolefin (PAO) Base Stock like Mobil One.

You never said how old or long or how many miles are on it.......

New plugs and wires.

New rotor and or distributor

Change the oil again. In winter I use 5-30 ad summer 10-30 Mobile1 Full Synthetic

New air filter

New oil filter of course

Maybe even change out the fuel pump for a new one

Every other oil change put some fuel injector cleaner in your rig. Not sure if that really helps out any at all though.

Change the Tranny fluid and filter.
