Default 2000 Durango radio controls

Just wondering if anyone has had trouble with the controls on the steering wheel for the radio? Mine just quit working for no reason. The cruise control and horn wipers turn signals ect. work fine. Where should I look first?

i would think the steer wheel mounted radio controls are the first hint of your clock spring going, and the horn and driver airbag will be following shortly

I replaced my steering wheel volume switch once. It had shorted out and was changing channels just like the channel switch. Clock spring was/is still fine.

If the switch is bad, just replace it. Happens.

Thanks Guys! I was afraid it might be the clock spring because it happened all at once and is all the radio controls. I was just worried about the air bag blowing in my face if I messed with anything.

sorry for not getting back sooner. just had carpel tunnel surg. on both hands.

You have to disconnect the negative terminal off the battery for at least 2 minutes to power down the Air Bag Module. So do this and also rest the PCM while your at it. Then remember when you start the truck after you fix it to do the rest of the PCM reset.

Neither of my steering-wheel based audio controls have worked since I got the car, is there any other way I can check as to the state of the clock spring ?

Pulled the standard stereo out today, no amplifier which made things easier. I think both speakers on the passenger side can't handle any bass, they vibrate a lot, not sure if it is the plastic surrounds or the cones have gone ?

Anyone had any speaker problems ?
