This is were you head for custom header builders,,,i have i shop i`ve been going to since my first car in 1970,,,,i had a set of 1 3/4 inch jet coated stainless headers made ,,,,,,cost was fair' cheaper than buying the aftermarket smaller ones...............with 3in collector, he did my whole system from headers to tip.It all depends on what yu have done to your motor ,, stock engine in durango will and does benifit from the headers that are out there, You want better performance from headers you will have to pay for it ,,,,all depends on what yu want ,,,,,,

Your going to loose torque with just installing headers. Unless a person is building a big motor then again it's just not worth it. And even if they do use them simple shorties are an easy way to go. 99% of people here on this forum are looking for a little bolt on power mod's not a all out race machine.

I don't have a big build. But I do have the RIGHT headers.

indy, iirc your build is much bigger than most go, and you have everything build together, not simply bolting everything on, there are many more cost effective options for someone starting from a stock motor.

I'm just saying this quote isn't quite right:

Headers can help bolt on setups, you just need the right ones in the right application.

SPECIFIC TO THE DURANGO:
5.2/5.9s, shorties and longs aren't it. Mid lengths are and preferably the impossible-to-find PPH/Mopar Performance being the optimal way to go.

4.7s, don't waste your time.

5.7s, if you saw the restrictive size of the exhaust manifold right off the block on the HEMIs straight from the production line crates, you would know that something is better than nothing there (if you can get them to fit and not have PCM issues.)

You can get the 5.2/5.9s stepped up via just bolt on items... but you need to get the air in and out, cool the motor, protect the plugs and swap the muffler. Do so correctly... with the right headers... and you will get a nice and noticeable gain.

Been following this thread, looking at my 5.2 I see - exhaust/ intake restiction even for a stock engine. Lets face it Factory builds for best overall but counts beans. We sometimes miss the obvious. For exmple the air drag, Lower your truck, put on a air dam to manage air around the truck, cover the bed or get a flow thru tail gate strap system, install factory size tires and watch it run better at highway speed and note the increase in mileage.

LOL... Yep, if I want low, I'll buy a car.

(Even as a former sports car nut, I've been driving pickups and SUVs for so long that I now HATE driving any kind of car. Makes me feel like my butt is half an inch from scraping on the highway... Ouch... Also have a hard time being polite and not busting out laughing when people talk about how their little front wheel drive compact with 3 inches of ground clearance is "really good in the snow". lol)

Headers are mainly about timing the exhaust, not as much of "dump" it.
