we are considering buying a 2001 durango from a party that has been honest about a previous issue.they stated the fan had quit working and caused the auto to get hot so she had to have a valve seat replaced,my question is could this cause more serious issues in future

Most likely not.

If they lifted the head and replaced the seat ask them if the had the head checked for straight edge (if a professional shop checked it out).
