Steering wheel, steering shaft, alignment problem.
I replaced tie rod ends, steering gear box, idler arm, pitman arm, wheel hubs, bushings, etc on the front end of my 98 Durango. After all this I took it in to be aligned at Pep Boys. They tried to get it to align but reported that there must be something wrong with the steering gear box because the pitman arm, gear box to steering column were all keyed. I returned home and put the old steering gear box into the Durango and then took it back to them with the new Pitman arm attached to the old gear box. Pep Boys again reported they could not align it properly. Based on the thread here I believe that the Pitman arm may be for a 2WD vehicle although AdvanceAuto people told me that there was only one Pitman arm for the vehicle. I have now ordered the Moog part as mentioned in the thread. I believe that is the root of the problem. I will update when I get it installed. I will take a picture of the steering gear box and Pitman arm with the "new" arm and the Moog part installed....thanks to whoever mentioned the Moog part number in the thread....I believe that will solve my issue.
