I don't believe there was multiple tank sizes available, although according the shrp's build sheet and my build sheet, when they made the cosmetic change they must have made a tank size change. My build sheet reads 26 gallons, as well as it states in the owners manual.

 

 

Yep, that definitely is a 25 gallon tank. I wonder if they did make a change when they made the cosmetic change.

Nope just kidding, I made a stupid mistake but checked my build sheet over again and its a 25 gallon tank on mine.

My 2001 has a 25 gallon tank and I get about 10 to 11 MPG. The Overhead reads 16 MPG when I'm easy on it, but that never lasts.

 

The only tank available was the 25 gallon as OEM.


The Overhead Display only gets it's information from electrical feeds that it gets like the feed from the fuel pump float that indicates the fuel level. Thing is the fuel pump hangs from the top of the fuel cell and does not sit on the bottom of the fuel cell so it cannot tell indefinably what the exact level is. Nothing is perfect. Besides the fuel cell rounds on the bottom from the polyurethane flexing over time and from weight of the fuel.

Don't fill the tank with the neck as there is a charcoal valve with a line that takes the vapor and cycels it to be burned. If you fill the tank to that level you can fill the charcoal canister and that will screw up your emissions. Rule of thumb, fill the tank using the lowest/medium set point on the nozzle and let it shut off when it is full (as usual) then finish the tank up to the nearest dollar. This helps you in your finances, and doesn't overfill your tank or worse spill fuel.

 

Well yeah i meant 25 gallon sorry guys. I remember hearing or reading somewhere that durangos gas tanks are 25.7 gallons or some crap. thats probably why i put 26 gallons. but still to much talk about the gas tank lol!


And i do exactly as hydra says. which is usually around 19 gallons for me. once maybe got it pushed up to 20 gallons in the tank but never more than that.

well moparman if your only getting 10-11 mpg than maybe your durango has the same high rpm situation as mine? might have something to do with the miles on the truck.

mine is creeping up on 80,000 miles now. and the only maintenance on it has been oil changes and spark plug and air filter maintenance that and i try and keep up with any small problems that come up.

 

Yeah when people complain about poor gas mileage the #1 reason for it that I've seen personally is a dirty air filter. You'd be surprised how many people overlook that when its routine maintenance time. Even the K&N drop in filters need recharged and lots forget.
